Pyrography artist from Germany. I burn stories into wood — line by line, spark by spark.
My story
I held my first burning iron at twelve — borrowed from my grandfather, originally meant for model making. “Just a quick try” turned into many hours. And the hours turned into a craft.
Today I work in a small workshop at the edge of the woods. Birch, oak, sometimes lime. A sketch on tracing paper, then contours, then shadow layer by layer. Nothing is painted — everything is burned.
I'm fascinated by transitions: the moment embers turn to ash, an animal becomes a myth, a line becomes a story. That's what every piece is about.
Process
Four phases, many hours — every piece goes through them in this order.
It always starts with the motif — working out how it will translate onto the wood and how to realise it.
The wood is selected and sanded, and the motif is traced onto it.
Contours first, then deeper and deeper. Several layers are needed to bring out depth through the line work.
Cleaning up the burn marks, sealing with natural oil.
Material
Every type of wood has its own character that I want to discover and get to know.
Tools
A Brennpeter as my base tool. I'm still learning which tips work best for what — so far I've focused mostly on the precision iron.
